Review: Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter Diamond Edition

Soap & Glory have taken things up a notch for Galentines, giving their award winning The Righteous Butter a shimmering twist as we enter Spring.

butter.jpg

I have been a long time devotee to the original Righteous Butter formula. I have particularly dry, eczema prone skin which cries out for moisture especially in the winter months. My skin reacts to heavy fragrances but I can safely say none of the Soap and Glory fragrance houses have caused any angry skin so that’s a definite plus point! As it is a butter, I like to apply it in in the evening after I shower to allow it to sink it overnight. The original pink fragrance of rose and bergamot is super relaxing and definitely one of my favourites from the range. The butter is particularly good prior to fake tanning on the knees, elbows and ankles to stop any unsightly clinging.

The new Diamond Edition is the exact same formula, with the exception being the “pearlescent shimmer mica powders” which give the product its diamond namesake. With highlights and illuminators taking Instagram and social media by storm, I was so eager to try the butter and see if it helped fake that much needed glow to my lack-lustre skin. It applied just like my holy grail Righteous Butter and sunk in leaving my skin so soft, however left a shimmery base on my skin. See the product in action in my little boomerang video here.

The finish of the butter was more shimmery than I was first expecting, however I did actually really like it. I think the butter would love amazing with a tan on holiday to really illuminate and hydrate the skin , or for an evening out on the legs and decollatiage for an instant lift and youthfulness. Personally, I wouldn’t wear the Diamond Edition on a daily basis and will stick to the original formula (or Sugarcrush, my other absolute fave) however will be keeping it stocked up for when the sunnier weather arrives. I hope the butter isn’t a temporary thing because I can definitely see myself re-buying this for the holiday season.

You can buy The Righteous Butter Diamond Edition here for £10.

Review: Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Lipgloss

Soap & Glory are famous for their fun, tongue in cheek product names, and Sexy Mother Pucker is no exception. I’ve never been the biggest fan of lipgloss, however have repurchased or been gifted SMP many times over the years. The shade Candy Queen holds a slight nostalgia to me as I used to wear it non-stop as a teenager. They are unique on the market as they contain “superfill” technology, and are infused with natural plant oil to plump your lips and give you a super glossy pout.

There are 7 individual shades currently available from the range, however different collections/combinations are always released around Christmas time.

img_6212

Once applied with the doe foot applicator, they begin to tingle on the lips almost like pins and needles. I don’t find it uncomfortable at all, but it is certainly a strange sensation the first time it is applied. However if you’re feeling brave, try their XXL plump – the tingle is real with that one! The tingle dies down shortly after application and you’re left with lovely glossy lips.

The colour range on the glosses is great, with a selection of more opaque colours and shimmers. I personally love layering the glosses over my existing lipsticks to give a fuller looking pout, in particular Bare Enough which is a lovely pinky nude. Nudestar looks amazing over a brown-toned nude (think Mac Velvet Teddy) for glossy lips Khloe Kardashian would be proud of. If a more natural look is what you like, try Candy Queen or Doughnut for a more subtle wash of colour and shine.

These glosses are a handbag favourite of mines as they are just so easy to apply and instantly make you feel put together.

You can buy Sexy Mother Pucker here for £9 from Boots.

Why Your University Friends Are Friends For Life

You get many things coming out of University: an education, a love for fast food and mainly a chunk of debt. But with Galen-tines day just around the corner (yes, a whole day to celebrate your friends) we need to appreciate the amazing friendships we make along the way.

unifriends

  1. You’ve seen each other at your best…

From acing assignments which you’ve slaved over together to spending all your student loans on dresses which make you look 10/10, you’ll be there for each other every step of the way to that big graduation.

  1. And your worst

They’ve probably held your hair back as you ran to the toilet after one too many Jagerbombs, and saw you in a sea of leftover Dominoes boxes and greasy hair as you fight your way through revision. But that’s okay, because they’re equally as minging.

  1. Surviving the hangovers (and the lectures)

Ah yes, where there’s a university, there’s always an abundance of bars and clubs close by for you to “just have a few” because you’ve a 9AM lecture in the morning. Fast forward a few hours, you and your friends are knee-deep in shots and declaring your love for each other.

  1. You’ve “grown up” together

University is a time of huge changes, from moving away from home to making new friends, it’s the time to discover who you really are. The windy path from teenager to mini-adult involves a lot of bills and responsibilities and c’mon, what bond is stronger than the joint crying over that?

  1. They never judge you for your procrastination

Mainly because they are too. Who knew re-watching an entire One Tree Hill boxset was more valuable than writing that essay?

  1. You talk about the real things

And I don’t just mean boys and makeup. I mean your five year plan, planning the dream job and aspirations, questioning how the hell you’ll ever afford your own mortgage(?!). The future is scary, but you’ll always be there cheering each other on.

  1. They know far too much

You’ve let them in all on all the juicy details of your life so you couldn’t possibly let them go. And let’s be honest, you’ve already picked out your bridesmaid dresses.

How will you be celebrating Galen-tines day?

Soap & Glory Digital Glambassador Role

img_6096
As I spoke about in my previous post, Soap & Glory were recruiting a new set of digital ambassadors for their brand from universities up and down the country. And, I’m so excited to say that I’m the very first digital “Glambassador” for Glasgow Caledonian!

I travelled down to London last Wednesday to visit their head offices at Kings Cross, something which was hugely exciting for a little country bumpkin like myself. After a 5 and a half hour train journey, I was submersed in a sea of their signature cosmetics and skin care products as I learned all about the brand and the work I would be doing. The team of girls on board were so welcoming and informative about what they wanted from us and really gave us all we needed to know about our roles and the brand itself. Their passion for their roles and love for the brand really shone through making me even more excited to be part of the team. The other digital ambassadors from across the UK were absolutely lovely too and I loved spending time with them. It was my first solo trip to London and it certainly didn’t disappoint (I mean c’mon, LOOK at that amazing sunset from the S&G offices?!).

Over the next few months, I will be blogging for Soap & Glory on A Tartan Rose, something which I feel like I need to pinch myself after even just writing it. As a loyal fan for many years, I can’t wait to get started on this amazing opportunity.

Soap & Glory Glambassador

dreamsUniversity was a hugely daunting thought for me prior to enrolling, coming from a tiny village surrounded by sheep and where everybody knows everyone. GCU welcomed me with it’s giant educational arms and I’ve never looked back. The university has such a diverse range of students, as regardless of age, race or gender anyone keen to learn can get involved. There are a huge array of fantastic societies on campus, such as the Harry Potter society, meaning people with similar interests can meet and make friends. There’s plenty to keep yourself active too, with an onsite gym, tennis court and sports clubs to banish that hangover and keep in shape. The university also has fantastic opportunities for those interested in media, with our very own radio station, Radio Caley. This, coupled with the award-winning university magazine The Edit, are open to anyone to join and are a great creative output. Seeing your own articles printed and being read on campus is a real buzz and makes the hard work worth it!

The newly renovated campus houses the lively and upbeat atmosphere of the students which creates a friendly and welcoming place to study. Located right in the centre of Glasgow, there’s always something going on nearby whether that be places to eat, a night out or the infamous Christmas markets. Of course, studying comes first, right?…

As a journalism student, I love to write and use social media. A personal goal for 2017 is to get back into blogging as I used to love doing this as a hobby. PR and marketing is an avenue I’d love to go down once graduating, so being a digital ambassador for such a huge brand would be an incredible opportunity. Soap & Glory is a brand I have personally used for years, and their passion for making woman feel empowered and beautiful through their fun advertising campaigns is something which makes them stand out from the beauty crowd. Their bold and bright dynamic would fit right in at GCU.

University is what you make it, and with all the fantastic opportunities (and lifelong friendships) GCU has to offer, it certainly is a kick-ass place to study. GCU makes everyone feel like their goals are achievable and gives them a positive place to kickstart them.Only you can make your dreams a reality, and by becoming a digital ambassador for Soap & Glory, I’d be fulfilling one of my own.

£30 of free Makeup Revolution Products

Budget make-up, for the most part, is a complete hit or miss. Cheaper priced items tend to have lower pigmentation, chalky formulations and poor colour matches leaving shoppers to reach for the higher priced equivalents. However, one brand that is completely changing the face of budget make-up is Makeup Revolution and one I am a huge fan of.

They are currently running a fantastic offer online where if you spend £30, you receive £30 in makeup absolutely free. One product I’ve been lusting after since its release is their “Neutral vs New-trauls” palette, which is supposed to be a fantastic dupe for the LimeCrime Vice palette. Khila’s post here includes swatches of the colours and show how pigmented it is so it seemed like a perfect opportunity to place this order and get a few gifts for others too.

The products included are: 3 single eyeshadows in Go!, U Know U Want To and Envy.

Eye dust in Etiquette

Intense lip laquer in Nothing Like You and I

The One Blush Stick in Malibu (a matte bronze) and Pink

Pro Looks eyeshadow Palette in EatSleepMakeupRepeat with 15 individual shades

Salvation eyeshadow palette in Welcome to the Pleasuredome with 18 individual shades

I heart Makeup eyeshadow primer in Wow

The single eyeshadows and the eye shadow palettes have incredible pigmentation for the price and are something I would highly recommend to anyone looking to expand their collection or for makeup newbies. If the bold colours in the EatSleepRaveRepeat palette aren’t for you, they would be fantastic for Halloween/fancy dress looks or to gift to a friend. All of the products are very versatile and wearable, and could even be put away as birthday or Christmas gifts (yes, I know its September but it’s never too early to start planning!)

Offer is valid until the 1st of October and can be purchased from the Makeup Revolution website here.

Will you be placing a Makeup Revolution order, or have you tried any of their products?

Save £10 on Urban Decay Naked Smoky with Feel Unique

Another day, another Feel Unique discount code but this one is definitely worth a look at.

Thanks to one of my favourite money saving sites Money Saving Expert, you can save a massive £10 on any order over £30 on the website until 11.59pm on 7th August. Use voucher code “10mse30” at checkout. (Valid on full price items only and with the exception of Dior, GHD, Moroccanoil and Tom Ford)

The new Urban Decay Naked Smoky has just launched in the UK and has already sold out on Debenhams and Urban Decays own website this morning at full price. The fourth palette in the award winning range has 12 sultry smokey neutral shades to allow you to perfect that elusive sought after eye look. With the discount code, the palette comes to £28 instead of £38 (around £2 per eyeshadow – and you get a double ended brush included!). The palette is rumoured to be limited edition so the discount is even more fantastic.

The palettes are my favourites due to the quality, pigmentation and in general they are just oh-so-pretty to look at. If Smokey doesn’t take your fancy, I really recommend any of the other Naked palettes. The original Naked palette is packed with bronze-hued shadows which are perfect for day or evening. My personal favourite is Naked 2, which has the perfect mixtures of the popular bronze tones mixed with silver hues and a gorgeous deep purple shade. Naked 3 is, admittedly, my least used of the three but is gorgeous never the least which an array of pink and rose-hued neutrals.

Naked, Naked 2 & Naked 3.

Naked, Naked 3 &; Naked 2.

If you don’t fancy getting Naked (sorry, I had to) then there’s a huge selection of fragrance, beauty, skin care and hair care to chose from on the site to take advantage of the deal! You can visit the site here.

Will you be grabbing the Naked Smokey palette or any items from Feel Unique?

FeelUnique Skin Care Savings

I make no attempt to hide the fact that I am a huge lover of all things beauty. Whether it be make-up, skincare or fragrance, it could definitely be said I have an ever growing collection. FeelUnique is a fantastic website that I use regularly to feed my habit as it always has fantastic prices and a huge variety of both low cost and high end brands such a Decleor and Urban Decay.

They are currently running a “specialist skincare event” with up to 1/3 off best selling brands such a Vichy and La Roche-Posay, alongside 3 for 2 offers and free gifts. What’s even better is that you can get a further 15% off using code STYLE2015 (this is valid on all products on the website) meaning huge savings to be had! They also offer free worldwide delivery on all orders over £10.

I placed an order for my holy grail skin care of the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Light and Rich creams, which already had a fantastic 33% saving at £12 each and then a further 15% off taking the order down to just £20.40 in total (from £36 normally). I highly recommend the moisturisers if like me you suffer from dry and dehydrated skin.

The skin care event ends midnight Tuesday 30th June, and you can visit the site here.

Free Tastecard for Royal Bank of Scotland Students

tastecard

Before I started University, I set up a new student bank account with the Royal Bank of Scotland. The bank account gave me student royalties such as a tax free overdraft and the opportunity to receive a student credit card. However for me, the best part about the student account was the free TasteCard membership which came alongside it. (You can also sign up for a TasteCard without an RBS account, however it does cost £79.99 per year for a membership)

How to Use

  • A TasteCard allows you to get 50% off OR 2 for 1 at 7,185 restaurants in the UK. The website allows you to enter your postcode and search for any participating restaurants near you. Once you have input your location, you can then use the search menu on the left to narrow down your options.
  • Then, you book a table for the selected restaurant ensuring you mention you have a TasteCard
  • Lastly, attend and when paying present your TasteCard.
The search bar to the left allows you to narrow your options

My Experience

As I am currently studying in Glasgow, there are many restaurants within the city centre which accept the Tastecard.

BYSXeMOx

I recently visited AskItalian, situated on Port Dundas Place. To eat, we ordered two drinks, two main meals of spaghetti carbonara and garlic bread to share. As they offer 2 for 1 on meals, the total bill came to £15.95 with thanks to my TasteCard. I would highly recommend visiting ASK, with or without this offer as it really was good value for money and excellent food and service.

Overall, TasteCard is a service I would highly recommend enquiring about if you are a student and have an RBS account.

Visit the TasteCard website here for more information, or here if you have an RBS account.

No7 Money Off Vouchers

no71Whilst stocking up on some essentials from my local Boots, I was handed a No7 money off voucher. These usually do the rounds in Boots around 4 times a year and every time I grab the opportunity to buy some of my favourite products from the No7 range.

The Concept

All you need to do to obtain a voucher is spend £4 on anything from your Boots store. However, if you keep your eyes peeled at a self scanner you’ll often find loads lying around that people simply haven’t picked up. They offer £5 off any No7 skincare and £3 off No7 make up.

My recommendations

No7 Hot Cloth Cleanser – £9.95 // £4.95 with voucher

hotcloth

I swear by this cleanser and have purchased numerous bottles of it over the years. I myself struggle heavily with dry skin and eczema and it works just as well for a friend with oily skin therefore fantastic for all skin types. It removes all traces of makeup and leaves my skin just feeling very clean and soft.

No7 Beautiful Skin Face Wipes – £7 // £2 with voucher

wipes

These are for the nights when I arrive home late, and the thought of crawling to the bathroom to remove my makeup is just too much (admit it, we’ve all been there). You get 30 wipes per packet, and if stored and sealed correctly these will last forever if not used every day. Once again, these are a repurchase of mine.

No7 Natural Blush Tint Power in Soft Damson – £8 // £5 with voucher

Natural Tint Blush in Soft Damson

Natural Tint Blush in Soft Damson

Moving onto makeup, the No7 blushes are some of my favourites which I own. I find them very pigmented so they are build able, but also look very natural on the skin.

No7 Instant Radiance Highlighter – £9.95 // £6.95 with voucher

highlighter

It’s rare to find a good highlighter in the drugstore but after discovering this gem I have been hooked. It comes in both a champagne shade and a bronze shade so perfect for every skintone.
